NYSC Corps Members Begin Receiving ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced the disbursement of the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance to its corps members, effective March 2025. This increase, up from the previous ₦33,000 stipend, aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

The Federal Government initially announced this increment in September 2024. However, its implementation faced delays due to budgetary adjustments. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, addressed these delays, stating that the allowance was not included in the initial budget, necessitating a process to secure the necessary funding. He assured that the government is committed to paying the backlog to both current and past corps members affected by the delay.

Corps members have expressed relief and satisfaction upon receiving the updated allowance. Many took to social media platforms to confirm the payments and share their experiences.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, reaffirmed the organization's dedication to the welfare of corps members. He emphasized the importance of their contributions to national development and encouraged them to remain diligent in their service.

This development is anticipated to boost the morale of corps members nationwide, enabling them to fulfill their duties more effectively during their service year.
